Non-Profit Protege Program
Non-Profit Protégé Program
For the Fall 2010 semester, the Student Activities Center at Iowa State University is sponsoring the Non-Profit Protégé Program in conjunction with the United Way of Story County. Undergraduate ISU students will have the opportunity to walk in the shoes of an administrator of an Ames non-profit organization. Throughout the semester, each protégé will attend weekly meetings with their mentor. Participants will have opportunities to attend board meetings, experience staff and committee meetings, visit with potential financial donors and witness the action packed world of being a non-profit leader.
This is not an internship experience; rather, it is an opportunity for students to directly shadow a non-profit administrator. The purpose of this program is to give students interested in exploring the non-profit world a firsthand experience in the field.
2009 was the first year for this program. The proteges included Halley Stille, Liz Fisher, Sam Harting, Meghan Roberts, Natasha Oren, Ruth Powell, and Sarah Gidlewski. The mentors included Jay Lettow (The Arc of Story County), Belinda Meis (Lutheran Services of Iowa), Reno Berg (Mainstream Living), Frankee Oleson (United Way of Story County), George Belitsos (Youth & Shelter Services), YWCA Ames-ISU (Liz Beck), and Shellie Orngard (Volunteer Center of Story County).
