Student Alumni Leadership Council Committee Applications Available

The Student Alumni Leadership Council (SALC) is now accepting applications for positions on the following committees: Ambassadors, Cyclone Alley Central, and Senior Class Council.  More information about the committees as well as applications can be found at www.isusalc.org/apply.  Applications are due by 4pm on Wednesday, March 24.

Deadline to nominate is Friday, March 26 and all recipients will be acknowledged at the VEISHEA faculty, student and organization recognition ceremony on Tuesday, April 13 at 7pm in the Sun Room, MU.

SUB Director Applications
Student Union Board (SUB) brings movies, live music, comedy, game shows, art and cross cultural events to The Memorial Union every week.  SUB is currently looking for students interested in being a part of a fun-loving group of people dedicated to providing unique and diverse activities for the entire campus to take on a directorship for next year.

           

In addition to President and Vice President, eleven directorships are available including the following:  Films, Maintenance Shop (2), Multicultural, Awareness, Performing Arts, Special Events, Fine Arts, Varieties, Public Relations, and Finance.

 

Interested students can find more information and applications online at www.sub.iastate.edu. The deadline to submit applications is March 12.

Non-Profit Protégé Applications Available
In Fall 2010, the Student Activities Center will sponsor the Non-Profit Protégé Program in conjunction with the United Way of Story County.  ISU students will have the opportunity to walk in the shoes of an administrator of an Ames non-profit organization. Throughout the semester, each protégé will attend weekly meetings with his/her mentor. Participants will have opportunities to attend board meetings, experience staff and committee meetings, visit with financial donors, and witness the action packed world of being a non-profit leader.  Applications are due Friday, March 12.

Unsung Heroes Service Scholarship Applications Available

 In Spring 2010, the Student Activities Center received a Target Campus Grant to award three $800 scholarships for the Fall 2010 semester.  The Unsung Heroes Community Service Scholarship will recognize three outstanding ISU undergraduate and graduate students who have dedicated exceptional time and effort serving the community.   Applications are available on the SAC website and are due by Thursday, April 1, 2010 by 5pm. To apply, click on this link- /servicescholarship

Student Office Space Applications

If your organization is interested in a closed office, cubicle, or basement storage in the Memorial Union's Student Office Spaces, applications are available now on the Student Union Board website at http://www.sub.iastate.edu/en/student_office_space/

Memorial Union Marquee

All recognized student organizations are eligible to use the Memorial Union Marquee located on Lincoln Way to help promote their on-campus events.  You are eligible to use this promotional tool even if your event is not occurring in the Memorial Union. There are some rules, requirements and restrictions for use but please refer to the policy for details. http://www.mu.iastate.edu/en/policies_guidelines/electronic_marquee_policy/

Large Passenger Van Classroom Training

Large Passenger Van and Vehicles Towing Trailers Class is scheduled on the following dates:

* March 24, 2010
* April 8, 2010
* May 25, 2010
* June 23, 2010

All classes are from 6 - 8 p.m. This two-hour class is free for faculty, staff, and students taking the class for University business. Class is being held in the Fire Service Institute Building on Haber Road. This class is part one of a two part class. The driving portion of the class will be offered at various times following the classroom training. Please watch our website for upcoming dates and times.

Both classes are required for student organizations renting 12 or 15 passenger vans or any vehicle towing a trailer. All drivers must also be at least 20 years old at time of departure.

SafeFood 101—Food Service Training for Student Organizations
Every person planning to prepare or serve food at an ISU student organization event needs to first attend SafeFood 101 training. Those needing first-time training may register for any upcoming session.  Upcoming sessions will be held in Gilman 1002 on March 10 and April 8.  Reservations are required. Those who completed training in the past may attend a Renewal Quiz session instead (reservations not required).

PIECES OF MIND to PEACE OF MIND: Mind and Meditation Session
Whether you're stressed or super-happy, you are welcome to attend a FREE-FOR-ALL Yoga, meditation and relaxation session, hosted by the Art of Living Club.

Connect’s Gospel Extravaganza
Come out and experience CONNECT's annual Gospel Extravaganza!  It will be an entertaining showcase of gospel music, spoken word, and praise dancing that is open to all.  There is no cost to attend the event, but a free will offering will be collected to assist with the needs of the community via Beyond Welfare. The Gospel Extravaganza will be at Stephens Auditorium at 7pm Friday, March 26 (doors open at 6pm).

Feed the Need Food Drive
Student Volunteer Services will be collecting canned and non-perishable food for local people in need. The food drive, Feed the Need, will be held from Monday, March 29 to Friday, April 9, 2010.   Food will be donated to Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA) for distribution through their food pantry. There will be various drop boxes across campus including academic buildings and residence halls.

The Fashion Show 2010

On April 3 at 2pm, The Fashion Show 2010 will take place at Stephens Auditorium.  This will mark the 28th year for this completely student-run production. The show features garments, set design, and modeling all done by current Iowa State University students.  Tickets are on sale now at the Iowa State Center Ticket Office or at ticketmaster.com.  Tickets are $16 for students and $22 for adults.  Visit http://www.aeshm.hs.iastate.edu/fashionshow/shows/2010.php for more details!

 


 

VEISHEA Service Day/Stash the Trash
Register for VEISHEA Service Day/Stash the Trash, a community wide community service event, on Saturday, March 27 from 9am to 4pm (various shifts).  Open to anyone- students, faculty, staff & community members.  Projects include campus and community litter pick up, landscaping projects, and various other projects around Ames.  Sign up online at
